Here at ProgCal, we're introducing a new weekly feature, the call-out. Every week, another student running for an executive position will be called out. Also, their strategies for winning will be examined.

Recent Blog Rundown
-Dancing Bear's Justin is has decided to turn away from "serious" posting. This post about Rory and me is actually true, however. We get along great. I've always found that I get along better with informed people who sincerely care yet disagree sharply with me than with people who agree with me but are idiots or have bad motives. One may think Rory's politics are way off (as I do), but still think he's a great guy (as I also do). On a side note, I think Justin "I file frivolous lawsuits to feel like I'm an important figure in the ASUC again" Christensen's constant deleting and reposting of posts violates the rules of good-blogging.

-CalStuff's Kevin has posted his own post on blogs.
He says "Hits have stagnated, at least for me, around 200/day on weekdays. Few of the Cal Blogs are breaking stories, with the major exceptions of CalWatch and ProgCal. (Probably some others I'm forgetting, too.) In all, the Blog scene is in equilibrium. Steady readership, focuses, and posting rhythms. Fine, but not really growing." and "Two or three 'Big Cal Blogs,' probably including Calstuff, would be a clearinghouse linking to all the blogs and working as a sort of Cal Blog Center. This, plus some publicity and word of mouth, would hopefully raise our hit count from 250 a day to over 500, from just insider ASUC/Daily Cal/OGB types to the rest of Cal."
Well, I have several problems with this. first, he mentions that of the other bloggers only CalWatch and I are breaking stories. Yet, Kevin refuses to link to either of us. This ties into his second point, that a couple of large blogs interlinked would help the whole community. Hence, he needs to link us. Before my leave, I averaged 120 hits a day. Now, I'm at 50. If Kevin really wants to increase hits and encourage bloggers like CalWatch and me, he should link our blogs.

-Rory kicks ass in this post. Great.

PS Kevin, you didn't even link CalWatch or me in that post!

Prog Cal Quiz #4
And everyone's favorite quiz returns...

Prize: The winner of this quiz gets to post anything on this blog.

Background: Last spring, the Cal Patriot published an article about MEChA, a Mexican-American rights group on campus. In addition to having numerous factual and reasoning errors (e.g. the coin comparison) that misrepresented MEChA, the Patriot completely disregarded any moral sense by attributing the article to one "Juan Carlos Leal Solis." Hence, the Patriot made it appear that a Latino was calling MEChA out. However, "Juan" is not Latino.

Quiz: What ethnic group does Juan associate with? Email me.

Don't be so paranoid "Juan" -- people really don't care about you personally, trust me. We've all known your name for sometime, and obviously nothing has happened.

Bye Jim
Jim Fung has called it quits. I will surely miss his blog and remember fondly the days when it was only us two.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Jim for years of service in the progressive community at Berkeley. Through his work in various organization, especially the Greens, Jim's made quite a difference.

ProgCal salutes Culliton Holic!

Welcome Back, Dancing Bear
Well, the Dancing Bear is back and out of the closet. It appears he's former SA ASUC Executive VP Justin Christensen. A bit of a shocker, but it's nice to know the identities of all the anonymous bloggers now.

Justin's gone serious and edited his previous blogs. (He even deleted his Hugo acceptance blog! -- bring it back!) Perhaps with Noah out of the senate there's nothing for Justin to joke about. In fact, he's so serious now that he's decided to team up with Paul LaFata and sue the senate for passing an emergency bill (authored by Hoku about asking the state not to cut funds for outreach). Not funny at all.

I look forward to interesting blogs from JC. However, I'll miss the jokes...

Berkeley College Republicans' President calls 9/11 Memorial A Party
In a recent email, Bret Manley (everyone's favorite BCR president) referred to 'the festivities on sproul on 9/11.' He later apologized, because apparently people were offended by that. I'm glad it's all a fun game of politics for Manley....

Best of Progressive at Cal
Due to the fact that I took a 2 month hiatus from blogging, some of the new comers are unfamiliar with this blog. So, here's a recap of some of things I've done:

- I declared war on the BCR.
- exposed Bret Manley
- exposed Patriot funding
- examined the stupidity of the Patriot's MEChA article and its author
- (i'll get to the author later-he's coming up soon in my list of BCRs...)
- I hosted the 1st Annual Hugo Awards
- Took on Student Action and it's blogger (see the first three weeks archives)
- And much more.

Thanks Jim for the recognition.

A Brief Return
Dear readers,

Lately I've been irked by the BCR and have decided to return briefly to blogging. For those of you who didn't keep up during the summer, I've been waging a blog "war" with BCR.

Some examples --

- I exposed Bret Manley.
- I exposed the funding of the Cal Patriot.

However, due to unfortunate events, I cut my "war" short. Much more is to come.
